about

This song was written in October 2012. It was during something called Operation Pillar of Defense… Between Israel and Palestine. So many innocent people died (mostly Palestinians) and I just couldn’t deal with it. My heart ached. I wrote this song as a token of peace, as a reminder that there is suffering in this world. Great suffering. People are living without basic necessities AND without hope. It is a crisis in many parts of the world. It is now happening again. So this song is for them and for everyone who wishes for peace in the Middle East and all over the world.

Dedicated to my father, proud Palestinian, George Shalabi. May he RIP and may we see peace in the Middle East in our lifetime. He spent his entire adult life trying to teach others about the beautiful Palestinian culture as well as the struggle. Foremost he wanted peace. He believed that meeting people from places we only hear (bad things) about and by having some understanding of culture, we could bridge gaps and make way for peaceful solutions.

lyrics

Trapped in a cage of despair
Greedy men sing praise for the war that they fair
Karma brings back all the fish in the sea
While the mighty think they are all that be

Families sing of hope
Being drowned by the scope
Of their struggle
Rockets blasting out of tune
In their little occupied bubble
Mad rush to the scene of blood and rubble

Chorus
Why do we only see our own side
Scared of our neighbors that we bomb & then we go hide
Fear stricken pain on the inside you
Will never solve the problems the problems that you view

Young soldiers carry weapons and they shoot to kill
Children throwing rocks to protect their olive hills
Brothers being separated by a wall of segregation
While being bombarded by the non-secular nation

Chorus

Showing for their sisters and brothers, but
Taking cover in the arms of their mothers
Strong until they are weak
Sucking up to powers that speak
Breaking down at the feet of Allah..
While waiting for their moment of hurrah!

Chorus

It’s getting old this war of blame
I tell you no one is gonna win this game

Lives are taken

Families are shaken

Rocks are broken

Your bombs are not tokens

Salaam Shalom
